Cracks that are widening, concentrated around openings, or paired with staining or soft areas deserve an inspection, because the real damage from a stucco crack usually happens behind the wall.
Can you avoid a full stucco tear-off?
Frequently, yes. If the structure behind the stucco is sound, systems like a two-coat fiberglass crack inhibitor can reinforce the existing wall and prevent further damage — as we did for a Novato home where vines had compromised the surface.
